Old village homes and new neighborhoods, side by side.
In Johnstown, the roofs we work on run from village houses built before 1960 to subdivisions about 20 years old.
The typical Johnstown home was built in 1994, but that middle hides two very different towns. More than 1 in 5 homes went up before 1960, in the older part of town. About 2 in 5 were built in 2000 or later.
The two need different things. Older houses often have chimneys, steeper roofs and more than one layer of shingles, so a replacement starts with a full tear-off and a close look at the decking underneath. Newer houses from the 2000s are reaching 20 years on their first roof, which is often when a repair still makes sense and a full replacement can wait.
On March 14, 2024, the EF1 tornado that crossed Delaware County passed just north of Johnstown, with winds the National Weather Service estimated at 90 to 100 mph across most of Licking County. Harmony Church Road was among the hardest-hit areas, with siding torn off homes and a church and trees brought down.

If I had not seen my new shingles I wouldn’t have known they were actually here. I never saw the dumpster delivered or picked up. My property was just how I had left it that morning. I was very impressed. I highly recommend them!

When we saw water stains on our ceiling, we immediately called Richie Wilson and he was at our house within 24 hours to assess. He figured out the cause and it was successfully repaired quickly. His work was efficient and effective with absolutely no problems since. And, his prices were extremely fair. If you need a roofing company, go with Richie Wilson!

Is the inspection free in Johnstown?
Yes. Inspections are free everywhere we work, Johnstown included. We get on the roof and show you what we find.
Do I need a permit for a new roof in Johnstown?
Usually not for the shingles alone. Licking County's Building Code Department treats asphalt shingle replacement as a minor repair that doesn't need approval or an inspection. It does need approval when the job replaces half or more of the roof decking or rafters, or any truss. If your home is inside Johnstown city limits, we'll also check with the city before we start. When a permit is needed, we pull it for you.
If there's no inspection, who checks the work?
We do, against the same code. The Residential Code of Ohio still applies with or without a permit: an ice barrier at the eaves, the right underlayment, flashing at every wall, valley and vent, and attic ventilation at least as good as before. Licking County spells this out in its guidance for shingle replacement.
My house is one of the older ones. Is that a problem?
No, but it changes the job. We'll check how many layers of shingles are up there and what shape the decking is in, and look at the chimney flashing. You'll see photos of all of it before we quote.
Can you tarp my roof tonight?
